about

I have always loved playing the classical repertoire, but there are so many ways to exploit the beauty of the cello and I enjoy exploring all possible avenues.' ..

This diversity is matched by the music of 'Darker Gold'. There are several haunting but heartlifting pieces on the album: A Celtic Homecoming, based on an original tune for Scottish pipes, David of the White Rock, the well-loved Welsh folk-song (intertwined here with the beautiful Welsh lullaby Suo-Gân), and Wistful Elegy, a moment of utter tranquillity.

Saint-Saëns' ever-popular The Swan makes an appearance, in a new orchestral arrangement. The epic sweep of Arboles Llorando (lamenting the destruction of the Amazon rainforest) moves seamlessly to the glassy loneliness of Midnight in Manhattan. And In a Blue Sky soars high above the seas around North Wales. ..

For contrast, there is the dizzying virtuosity of the imaginary Cirque d'Enigmes (Circus of Enigmas), the Eurocentric yearning of Ikon, and the easy gallop of Awyr Iach. Hymn to the Anaconda sinuously evokes Argentinean cafe society while the title-track, Darker Gold, conjures up a sultry world of rising sandstorms and dangerous passions.
